And the survey says: Chinese teens are now losing their virginity at age 17

By Alex Linder
Much like the Chinese stock market, the age at which Chinese youngsters are losing their virginity is plummeting, according a recent survey.

Researchers found that Chinese teenagers born after 1995 first have sex on average at age 17. Compare that to an average age of 19 for those born after 1990 and 22 for those born during the 1980s, and it would seem that Chinese teens are finally starting to catch up with the rest of the world in the bedroom/pavement.

However, where they still lag behind is in the realm of safe sex with only 35% of teens using any kind of birth control measures. Meanwhile, just 40% of those born between 1985 and 1994 use them and only 20% of those born in the 1970s.

The survey was conducted jointly by Peking University and a commercial dating site. Over a two month period last year, researchers polled 80,000 people across 34 different locations across China.
Another survey last year found that the majority of Chinese are dissatisfied with their sex lives. We'll have to wait and see if there is any generational change there.
