TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, through his spokesperson has stated that security conditions in Jakarta has returned to normal. The statement was made following the explosions and shootings which occurred outside of Sarinah shopping centre in Central Jakarta on Thursday, January 14, 2016.
In his statement, President Jokowi - as he is commonly referred to - said that he appreciated the efforts of Indonesia's security forces, who managed to take control of the situation and immediately worked to revert the situation to normal. "I hereby order the Health Minister to ensure that all injured victims receive adequate care," said Jokowi through a member of the Presidential Communications Department, Ari Dwipayana, who had released a written statement.
Cabinet Secretary, Pramono Anung, concurs and confirmed that the explosions that rocked the capital only occurred at two locations - the intersection of Jl. MH Thamron and Jl. Wahid Hasyim. "We have everything under control, and traffic has resumed as per usual," said Anung.
Previously on Thursday, January 14, 2016, an explosion took place in front of Sarinah shopping centre at approximately 10.55 am, local time. At least seven were killed by the blast - five of which were the individuals who carried the attack, while the other two others include an Indonesian civilian, and one foreigner.
Following the tragic attack that occurred in broad daylight, President Joko Widodo immediately held an emergency session to discuss security measures. Present at the press conference following the session was the Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Affairs, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.
