Ahead of the National Executive Commit tee, NEC, meeting of All Progressives Congress, APC, slated for tomorrow, Forum of Former Governors and Forum of Progressive Governors have taken different stance as regards the fate of the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
While the former governors have thrown their weight behind Oyegun, a large number of serving governors can’t wait for the national chairman to be removed. Our correspondent gathered that a vote of no confidence might be passed on Chief Odigie-Oyegun at the meeting with a motion for his replacement. The party has fixed Tuesday for its caucus meeting, the BOT on March 22nd and NEC on the 24th.
But an insider told some newsmen yesterday that the caucus of the 1992 governors, led by former governor of Yobe State, Senator Abba Bukar Ibrahim met over the weekend with the aim of mobilising others to back Oyegun against his predators. The source stated that they are reaching out to other former governors, including National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu to make sure that no confidence vote would be raised against the national chairman.
“Also, the team would try to see the President, Muhammadu Buhari on the issue if responses from other party chieftains are not positive,” the source said. The forum of former governors is being chaired by Senator Jim Nwobodo. Nwobodo, who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before moving to APC. “We have many of our members in the party and outside the party. We have chosen to back Oyegun after our meeting because we have seen that some people are only looking for how to control the party at all levels,” the source added.
The source, however, told our correspondent that serving governors of the party are tired of the national chairman and are scheming for his removal. The source said: “But you should know that progressive governors are the ones plotting Chief Oyegun’s removal. “He has disappointed them so many times, and that is why many of them don’t visit the National Secretariat of the party. Some of them have even stopped funding the party until Chief Oyegun is removed.”
